Starting on May 17, we have begun a 21 day “Trade with God.” We are called as Christians to surrender out lives to the Lord, “to die to self”, this is a non-negotiable part of the faith. The concept of “dying to self” is found throughout the New Testament. It expresses the core of the Christian life, in which we take up our cross and follow Christ. Dying to self is part of being born again; the old self dies and the new self comes to life.
We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. Romans 6:4 (NIV)
Not only are Christians born again when they are saved, but we continue dying to self as part of growing in God’s grace. As such, dying to self is both a one-time event and a lifelong process.
So, to encourage one another in our Christian growth, we will make a “Trade”. We will give God a habit, an attitude, or a belief that is harming us and our witness to others and trade it for the action, attitude, or belief that God has for us.
One of the best ways we can give God glory is to share what He is doing in our lives and celebrate together His love, promise and transforming grace as a community. Please let us know what area of your life you are trading (giving to God) and what you are replacing it with. Also, update how things are going over the 21 days.
