An Opportunity for Giving

In recent years God has opened several doors of opportunity for our church to share God’s love with other people.

The Union Baptist Association (UBA) has initiated the LOVING HOUSTON program to meet the needs of disadvantaged and disabled residents in the 3rd and 5th wards.Food Donations He has used the JOY program and MOPS program to reach women who have come from other countries. He has used the AWANA program to minister to local and international youth. More recently we have established a ministry to prisoners in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ).

One of these is Feldon Bonner. After six years of incarceration, Feldon was paroled with a GPS leg monitor. Upon parole, he was accepted back into fellowship of the African American church in which he grew up, Greater Ward AME Church. The church has assigned him to several ministries including driving youth and seniors in the neighborhood to and from church services and activities, and picking up food from the Houston Food Bank, Farmers Market and specific grocery stores to stock the Church Food Pantry which he manages.

To execute these ministries it is clear that the church needs a passenger van.  The church has a limited budget that does not allow purchase of the van, but does have sufficient resources to cover maintenance, fuel, and insurance. An appropriate van can be obtained for about $10,000.

There are several important benefits that accrue from the purchase of this van. 1) it provides a way to bring children and adults to church who otherwise would not hear the gospel; 2) it provides food to the local neighborhood; 3) it would help a sister church meet the physical and spiritual needs of its members and neighborhood; 4) it would help restore a previous felon to a position of responsibility and respect. If you feel led to contribute to this initiative, please do so through Rice Temple Baptist Church.
